To my program of research, I bring a deep understanding of Philadelphia neighborhoods and their workings for I have decades of experience working with a wide network of community agencies as a trusted nurse and Philadelphia native. I am a certified Womens Health Nurse Practitioner and a tenured faculty member at 91Ƭ. After years of clinical experience caring for high-risk urban pregnant women, I sought rigorous research training with advanced statistical and GIS courses. My research uses a bio-psycho-social perspective to examine racial and ethnic disparities among mothers and infants in low-income urban communities. Through identifying components of individual experiences which are tied to broader social explanations and influences, I look for potential modifiable factors for which strategic and tailored interventions can be developed to protect urban socio-economically disadvantaged mothers against adverse health outcomes for themselves and the children under their care.

Proposal title: Comparison of Health Care and Birth Outcomes among Migrant Women of African Ancestry in the US and Israel.
For clues into the documented racial disparities in adverse birth outcomes among ethnically diverse Blacks in the United States, this funding provided several cross-national research summits to serve as think tanks to facilitate interdisciplinary collaborations to study birth outcomes among a homogeneous ethnic group of Blacks in Israel, primarily from Ethiopia compared to the heterogeneous group of Blacks in the U.S.
